There's a project which has been growing in Northern California over the last few years which many generous artists have helped support. It's a project which has developed from a small 'street team' helping women in need, to a full-service crisis-pregnancy prevention and education program.
The Mother Hen Project has helped Chicks In Crisis create a unique Urban
Ranch where women and men can come to learn, grow, heal and get the
support they need to thrive. Inez Whitlow and her team have converted an old, run-down farmhouse into an office, conference and
education center, storage room and showering facilities. They have a hen house, a rambunctious rooster named Fred, a vegetable garden, a
healing garden and are about to convert the barn into a restaurant which will provide food and career opportunities for all.
A few months ago I visited the Ranch to photograph some of the
women who have been a part of the program.
Alyse was one of them. In her own words . . . .
In the coming weeks I will be sharing artwork from artists who are donating to The Mother Hen Project #3. This year we are hoping to put the auction online so that everyone can be part of the project and help raise funds for a farm-to-fork restaurant which will be on site at The Ranch.
